This is the address the internet sees when your computer, phone or tablet connects to a website. It belongs to your connection — your home router, your office, your phone company or your VPN — not to the device itself.
Your public IP address
Looking…
A number that tells the internet where to send things. Every web page, email and video you ask for comes back to this address, the same way a letter comes back to your street address.
Your computer has a private address inside your home or office, usually starting with 192.168, 10 or 172. Your router shares one public address between every device behind it. This page shows the public one — the only one the rest of the internet ever sees.
IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.42. The world
ran short of them, so IPv6 was made, with much longer addresses
like 2001:db8::1. Many connections have both; this
page shows whichever one your browser used to reach us.
Most internet providers lend you an address rather than giving you one to keep, and hand out a new one from time to time — often when your modem restarts. A phone gets a new one as it moves between towers and Wi-Fi. A fixed (“static”) address is usually an extra your provider charges for.
Roughly, not exactly. An IP address usually points to your internet provider and a city or region, not your street. Only your provider knows which customer had an address at a given time.
That means the VPN is working. Websites see the VPN’s address instead of yours, and this page is a quick way to check that it is switched on.
Yes. curl https://perrycs.com/ip prints just the
address and nothing else, which makes it easy to use in a
script.
This page does not save it anywhere. Like every website, our web server keeps ordinary logs of visits. See our privacy policy.
